Sashiko – Japanese Hand Stitching, is a gentle, meditative process. It is a folk art, often used to repair or reinforce utilitarian objects, in contemporary times has been elevated to an art formin itself. In traditional Sashiko , the designs are usually geometric allover patterns or in some cases, motifs called Komon – clan crests. However, if it is a line, it can be stitched and for this project, you will combine the graceful Art of Japanese Bonsai, with this traditional Japanese stitchery. There will be three patterns to choose from. This project is handwork, no sewing machine needed for the class.
Skill Level: confident beginner and up

Materials Fee $40 cash paid at beginning of class includes:
An 11” square of authentic Japanese Sashiko fabric, stabilizer, 2 skeins of thread, a Sashiko needle, Saral paper, a chalk pencil, and a pattern of choice (additional patterns available for $5 each)
Supplies Needed to bring for Class:
Embroidery scissors or thread snips
A traditional wooden pencil
Magnifier/light (optional) – If you need magnification and/or focused light for detailed work
