Whether you’re a virgin or just haven’t been around the block enough...this is the basics class you’ve been looking for. Based upon my actual experience...I will show you everything you need to know about soldering including tools and techniques. You’ll learn how to solder basic charms and then the special techniques I’ve created for my signature Bubbles and dimensional objects. I’ll take you from the beginning (glass cutting) through to the finishing touches (charm attachments). Demonstrations will guide you while you try your hand at the soldering process and create your own charms. This is a technique-based workshop.
A $10 materials fee is payable to the instructor on the day of the class.
A note about supplies:
Remember, this is a hands-on TECHNIQUE class. Our time will be spent learning the steps involved in soldering not only basic charm shapes, but dimensional pieces, bubbles, glass cutting, & attachments. We will not be creating artwork to put behind the glass, so please come prepared with a variety of artwork (different sizes) for putting between the glass. Any images should be NON-glossy. Bring dimensional objects if you desire (ie: buttons, ribbon, etc.) as you will learn the techniques for using those items as well.
I will have soldering equipment that can happily be shared. However, if you have your own equipment, bring it. This includes:
--Soldering Iron
--Soldering Iron Stand
--Rheostat
--Extension Cord (**10' preferably...and/or power strip**)
--Solder
--Tips in different sizes
**I will have Flux, Flux Remover, and Sponges to share ... no need for you to travel with it unless you want to solder in your hotel room :) **
For this class, you MUST bring:
--Pliers (one Flat-Nose or Chain-Nose, one Bent-Nose, one Round-Nose)
--Metal Cookie-Sheet (at least 8x10) * a cheapie is fine, I prefer a non-stick coating*
--Scissors
--Cutting Pad or Work Surface
--Hand-Towel or Apron
--Pencil or Pen
--Artwork (to put between the glass) in assorted sizes from 1"x1" up to 2"x3" (if you do not have pre-made artwork, we will just use plain paper since this is a soldering-technique class, not a project class).
--A few dimensional objects you would like to learn how to solder
To do additional techniques, please bring:
--Wire-Cutters (small)
--Wire (nickel, copper, or sterling wire in either 22 ga., 20 ga., 18 ga., or 16 ga.) *For sterling wire, I prefer "dead-soft round wire"
--A blank open-link bracelet (to attach your charms to)
