1048 - The Palimpsest: The Magic & Mystery of Text |
[back to quicklinks]
A ‘palimpsest’ is a document which has been partially erased and overwritten. Words are half-hidden, so what was originally there is anybody’s guess. In this class we will experiment with writing words, phrases, and snatches of narrative in ink, paint, crayon, and pencils on various papers. These papers will then be painted and ‘distressed’ as we use them in layered collages. Transparent fluid acrylics will create the richness of an ancient illuminated manuscript. Previous experience with paint not essential.
