1051 - Working Small in a Big Way

Working small may seem challenging but it’s fun and addicting. We’ll start by experimenting with different paints and mediums to create backgrounds for your miniatures art pieces. We’ll create a patchwork of art with the backgrounds you’ve made and apply various snippets of images and text to 1 x 1 inch pieces of artwork. We’ll add paint, layers, inks and stamps, and look at your photos a whole new way. Then we’ll experiment with piecing them together and use embossing powders to create a larger piece of art in a mosaic fashion.  We’ll also play on 3.5 x 2” business cards and create a skyline. By embedding imagery, words and snippets of paper we’ll discover combinations restricted only by your imagination.

We’ll have fun while we experiment and explore many of the techniques I used in my books “In This House – Altered Art Imagery and Collage Techniques” and “Mixed Emulsions – Altered Art Techniques for Photographic Imagery”.

A $10 materials fee is payable to instructor on the day of class.

--6” x 6” gessoed canvas
--8x10 cardstock paper
--20 3.5 x 2” business cards
--Photocopied images and snapshots we can cut up to make photo mosaics
--gesso
--postage stamps or paint chips (optional)
