1055 - Windows & Closures

Learn to showcase and protect small treasures, as well as design custom closures for your book works. This workshop will be divided in two parts; we will explore windows and inlays in the morning and closures in the afternoon. The focus of the class will be the use of a variety of materials including wood, tin, bone, mica, leather, veneers, and a variety of papers. Although we will not be working on a book in this workshop the class is still project orientated in that participants will go home with sample boards of closures and windows, the techniques learned will be helpful and easily applied to any book design.

A $15 materials fee is payable to instructor on the day of class.

Supply List:
--Ruler
--Sturdy awl
--Scissors
--Pencils
--White eraser
--Battery powered rotary tool or hand powered drill
--Small pair of pliers
--Small file set and/or needle files
--Japanese paper drill
--¼ palm chisel
--Exacto knife and blades
--Small cutting matte
--Small hammer
--Assortment of buttons and beads

Materials fee includes:
--Practice sample boards (predrilled)
--Leather strips
--Tin
--Bone
--Wood
--Various papers and board
--Assortment of waxed linen thread
--Needles
--PVA glue
--Other misc. materials or tools needed to complete the project
