A106 - Cut Down on the Chaos! Compose Your Painted Collage- day 1

How can you avoid the chaos of a lot of pieces of paper stuck on haphazardly then painted over?  Ann has been teaching composition and abstract design in art for many years and will show you how to integrate your elements, emphasize focal points, and provide visual pathways for the viewer. You will concentrate on varying shapes, sizes, color, tone, and texture. She will teach you how to follow the rules and how to break them. On the first day, you will have fun decorating ordinary papers with paint and using them in abstract collages. On the second day, you will create themes and stories using found imagery transformed with paint and other media. With warm-up exercises in design and plenty of instructor demonstration, you will complete several collages over 2 days. Golden paints and several texture mediums will be provided. (Two full days)

Supply List:

• Color magazine to tear and cut up
• Your own found images for creating a story or theme
• selection of found (not expensive!) abstract or plain papers - abstract-patterned wrapping paper, notepaper, copy paper
• 1” flat nylon brush (measure across, not length of bristles)
• 1” flat bristle brush
• one or two rubber ‘shapers’ (like a pen with a rubber tip for scraping into paint)
• bottle Golden or Liquitex matte medium (not Gel)
• cheap oil pastels (Cray-Pas are fine)
• pad Strathmore 9 x 12 in. 140lb cold press watercolor paper
• I sheet larger 140lb watercolor paper (up to 18 x 24 in.)
• objects to make marks with: cardboard tube, cork, patterned rubber stamps, bubble wrap
• heavy-duty paper towel (Costco or Grand Auto 'Brawny')

A $20 materials fee to paid to the insructor at the beginning of class.

Materials fee includes: Set of Golden paints and several texture mediums will be provided, as well as other materials to share.
