An extra-special Workshop for creating meaning within a decorative object. We will first create 3 dimensional shrines within found vintage bottles. How, you ask? We will learn how! Our shrines may reflect the natural relaxing environment we are in at Asilomar (perhaps shells, stones, sand from the beach...stones, bark, leaves from the resort...or antique photos, snippets of greeting cards, tinsel, glitter, ribbon and other ephemera from home). After they are encased, we will then create bottle-toppers using
chandelier crystals, found objects, doll parts, glass shards and more. Students will be able to create at least one Shrine in a Bottle. This Workshop includes one vintage bottle...but students can bring additional bottles to make as time permits. Vintage Bottle, crystals for cross included.
A $25 Materials fee to be paid to the instructor at the beginning of class
SUPPLIES:
As for supplies, I will have soldering equipment that can happily be shared. However, if you have your own equipment, bring it. This includes:
- Soldering Iron
- Soldering Iron Stand
- Rheostat
- Solder
- Sal Amoniac Block
- Tips in different sizes
**I will have Flux, Flux Remover, and Sponges to share ... no need for you to travel with it unless you want to solder in your hotel room :) **
For this class, you MUST bring:
- Pliers (one Flat-Nose or Chain-Nose, one Bent-Nose, one Round-Nose)
- Wire-Cutters (small)
- Metal Cookie-Sheet (at least 8x10) * a cheapie is fine, I prefer a non-stick coating)
- Scissors
- Cutting Pad or Work Surface (something to protect the table)
- Hand-Towel
- Pencil or Pen
- Paintbrush
- A small amount of Ephemera such as antique papers, stamps, clip-art, victorian trading cards, vintage photos (or prints of), and/or whatever you like to use for embellishment/interior shrine.
- Paints - your favorite colors (I will have paints to share)
- Favorite rubber stamps
- Other miscellaneous items you like to use in collage
- Dimensional objects you would like to use in your shrine. Bring an assortment as there is no "bottle" size...but keep in mind that the bottles will be rectangular and the interiors can be as small as 1/2" deep. The fun is in using what you have to make it work (pre-planning is for the birds).
- Crystals for the cross - there will be chandelier crystals in your kit, but perhaps you have some unique, special crystals you would prefer. Small and large assortments are good.
