N140 - Dolls for Big Girls

In this class we will each be making a sculptured doll out of Sculpey clay, wire, bits of textile and ingenuity. Judy will gently guide you through the creative process as we shape and bake the body parts and fashion the fabric trim for our creations. There will be several styles of doll to choose from or you are welcome to investigate in your own direction. There will be lots of sharing, demonstrations and suggestions as Judy shows you her modeling and painting approach and shows you a variety of dolls for inspiration. You will take home a finished doll and many new skills using Sculpey clay. (Note: All these techniques are also suitable for Paper Clay.) Each student will receive an instruction booklet.

Supply List:

• 1 box of White Sculpey
• 4 round chopsticks
• an exacto knife
• ribbon, fabric for skirt (opt) or lace
• needle and thread
• craft paints: flesh tone Ceramcoat, burnt or raw umber, red, black, blue, iridescent or metallic colors, whatever you have. (I’ll share mine of course)
• several brushes - one tiny detail brush plus several more
• kleenex
• Liquitex matte medium
• aluminum foil
• pencil with an eraser
• wire cutter and small round nose pliers if you have them
• any wooden or wire shaping tools you have on hand (opt.)

Teacher brings:

• pasta roller
• baking parchment
• toaster oven & canning pot & lid
• steel wire and wire cutters & round nose pliers
• matboard flats for rolling out (2 each student)
• tooth picks
• hot glue gun and glue sticks
• everything students bring
• linen thread or dental floss and needles
• instruction booklets for everyone
