As unlikely as concrete for jewelry may seem, it is surprisingly lightweight, easy to use, extremely versatile and…. unbelievably inexpensive. In fact it is lighter in weight then stone, resin or metal of comparable size and this makes it perfect for jewelry and other objects of personal adornment.
In this workshop you will learn the basics of using various types of concrete and numerous ways of incorporating it into the work you are already doing in metal clay, polymer clay, mixed media work and traditional metalworking.
We will start by making non-soldered boxes as in the examples pictured here. These can then be filled with concrete and include virtually any material or found object you please. We will then branch out into casting into silicone molds and forming small concrete slabs with inclusions that can be set in a bezel or with prongs or tabs.
The concrete materials we use are easy to find, take no special tools and yield fast results.
Participants can expect to finish at least one project and numerous examples. A kit fee of $15 will be paid to the instructor at the beginning of the class.
