N146 - Crowned Jems

[back to quicklinks]
$ 140

Antique tintypes are a cherished part of photographic history and gem types are the charming little crown jewel of that era. Join me and I’ll show you how to embellish these postage stamp sized gems to create beautiful jewelry. We’ll add whimsical crowns, hats, wings and trim using rivets and other cold attachments. If you’ve ever wanted to learn to use steel wire in jewelry making, now is your chance…I’ll show you my tricks. Students will hand-form wire to create an amazing focal and learn to make a “ball and stick” style chain. Other techniques covered will be clasp making, and how to make cold connections for use with silk, or other cord, in place of chain. Attention to detail is most important in making beautiful jewelry and students will gain valuable skills in the basics (and beyond) of wire jewelry making as well as how to give your piece that finished, professional look. You’ll leave class delighted with your crowned gem!
