Instructor will demonstrate layering transparent acrylics over both handwritten, stenciled, and printed text to create the precious quality of illuminated manuscripts. Students will then have the chance to create their own pieces, experimenting with building textures, creating and obliterating words. Wear old clothes!
Supply List: --color magazine --samples of interesting printed and handwritten text --some letter stencils & rubber stamps, if you have them --bottle of matte medium --glue stick --1” flat nylon brush --1” flat bristle brush --Sharpie or Zig waterproof pens in brown and black --pencil --cheap oil pastels (Cray-Pas, Sakura are fine) --scissors --pad 140lb cold-press watercolor paper (11x 15 in) --tracing paper --a few other papers (coffee paper, rice paper, stationery) suitable for writing on --paper towels --water pot --household sponge --Please bring a supply of vinyl or latex gloves to protect your skin from paints.
Supply fee includes: Sample set of five 1oz Golden Fluid Acrylics in the following colours: Paynes Grey, Titan Buff, Transparent Yellow Oxide, Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Quinacridone Crimson; sample acrylic mediums; half sheet (22 x 15 in.) Fabriano 140lb watercolor paper for final project; one sheet black ArtAgain paper, and several texture mediums for experimentation.
