327 - Its All About Transfers & A Simple Stab-Bound Book

[back to quicklinks]
$ 135

This class is all about photo transfer techniques! We will explore inkjet, packing tape and photocopy transfers and how to layer them to get a rich look. We will then bind the transfers together in a simple Japanese stab-bound book. The covers of our book will be constructed from food packaging boxes that we will collage and decorate. When completed, your book will be a work of art in itself, the groundwork for a small artist book or visual journal, or a valuable reference book for future photo transfer projects. This is a great low-stress class that doesn't require much brainpower, and can produce collage material to use in your other classes.

Supply List:
--paper to transfer onto--can be plain or printed, but not glossy. Must be a little larger than the size of book you want to make. The sample book is about 8 3/4" x 6". Note: your book can have as many pages as you want and they can be different.
--chipboard (cereal boxes, frozen pizza box, etc.) Cut the box into 2 pieces, a little bigger than the size of book you want to make.
--small jar of Gel Medium
--a few cheap 1" paint brushes
--items to decorate covers (collage material, paints, stamps & pads, etc,)
--glue stick
--scissors
--brayer
--clear packing tape
--bone folder

Please bring photos/images printed or copied on the following papers:
--inkjet prints on "Jet Print Photo Multi-Project Photo Paper", medium weight, gloss finish
--inkjet prints on "Jet Print Photo Imaging & Photo Paper", medium weight, matte finish, 6 mil. OR Burlington "Print Works Photo Paper" matte finish, 6 mil. (Try Wal-Mart or Target for the Printworks paper)
--inkjet prints on inkjet transparencies

Note: old inkjet prints don't work as well for transfers. Print/copy all inkjet images reversed if there is text or a definite 'right side' to the print. The black & white copies on paper can be either. Also, it is harder to do transfers from inkjet printers that use archival or Durabrite inks.

NOTE--this class will be held at the HoliDAY Inn, just down the road from the Embassy Suites. The hotel shuttle will be available for those who need transportation.  Lunch is included in the cost of your class.
