Remember Hot Wheels? Those speedy little cars that zoomed across the room, traveling on florescent orange tracks? In this class you'll take those tiny vehicles and modify them with found objects and doodads, thus transforming them into souped-up little shrines. Using techniques such as assemblage, collage and painting, you will create icons from pop icons. But wait, these are not just cute little wall hangings--you will also be able to race them! In fact, at the end of class, we will do just that...I'll have some tracks set up and we'll have the Indy 500 of the Artworld! The fastest shrine wins a deMeng Holy Roller. (By the way, you don't have to be a guy to play with toy cars.)
Supply List: --Exacto knife & blades; --scissors; --drawing tools (pens, pencils, pastels, etc--bring what you feel like using); --brushes ( a few detail or line brushes, some flat in different sizes. Nothing larger than 1"--leave your expensive ones at home); --matte medium; paints (white, black, quinacridone gold, red, blue, yellow--any others you desire); --strong clear glue like E 6000; --doodads and found objects (bring various items that you would like to use on your shrine--jewelry, fake flowers, price tags, watch parts, fake eyelashes, etc); --a couple of Hot Wheels to soup up.
NOTE--this class will be held at the Holiday Inn, just down the road from the Embassy Suites. The hotel shuttle will be available for those who need transportation. Lunch is included in the cost of your class.
