Developed as early as the 4th Century, this Ethiopian binding style has withstood the test of time. In order to gain a better understanding of the basics of woodworking, you will use simple hand tools when you drill, shape and smooth your book covers. We will discuss finishing methods, and you will seal your wood covers with milk paint and a coating of wax. Your binding will include leather closures. The elegant Coptic sewing structure combined with wooden covers opens wide range of possibilities for either the beginner or the advanced bookbinder. Supply List: --mechanical and white lead pencils; --small, sharp scissors; --ruler; --awl; --bone folder; --plastic triangle --Exacto knife and blades --cutting surface; --dust mask
Optional Items: --small jeweler's pliers; --1/4” wood chisel; --Japanese drill and tips; --decorative papers.
