Are you like me and have a habit of saving each and every meaningful card, letter, and postcard that arrives in your mailbox? Do you then throw them into one big pile or drawer that often grows larger by the month? Do you often wonder how you can hold on to the meaning of these notes and letters without throwing them away? If so, you are going to love this class. For this project we'll use some of those meaningful cards and letters to create three wonderfully layered and textured patchwork collage paintings. After we use our old letters + cards to create a meaningful background, we'll apply paint and inks to give your collage a distressed but cohesive look. Then you'll learn how to use your fingers to paint faces with various mixed mediums - a fun technique that allows the beloved letters underneath to peek through the skin tones. We'll define our facial features and our collaged background with with pens, pencils, crayons, and more. In the end, you will have created three meaningful paintings that that pay tribute to those who give us the gift of family and community.
