This class is all about transfers! Because I love to use a lot of images, and photos in my work and am drawn to the complexity of them in layers, I have perfected different photo transfer techniques. I will teach you these techniques and how to use them in your artwork to get the look you want. We will explore inkjet transfers, packing tape transfers, photocopy transfers, and how to layer them to get a rich look. You can make the transfers in your journal or artist's book, or transfer onto loose paper—printed or plain. This is a great class to take at night because it doesn't require much brain power. And you can use your finished transfers as collage material for your artwork, journals, or artist’s books. For more information, visit my web site at www.TraciBunkers.com. Questions? Supplies Needed for Class:
Paper to transfer onto: can be plain or printed, but can’t be glossy. Must be a little bigger than the transfer images.
1 or 2 sheets of watercolor paper
5-10 Photos/images printed or copied on each of the following papers:
• inkjet prints on really cheap, glossy paper—high quality photo paper that's glossy won’t work
• inkjet prints on Burlington “Print Works Photo paper” matte finish, 6 mil. (if you can find “Jet Print Photo—Imaging & Photo Paper”, medium weight, matte finish, that's the best, but has gotten hard to find) Note: Old ink jet prints don’t work as well for transfers. Try Wal-mart or Target for the Printworks paper.
• inkjet prints on inkjet transparencies
• black & white copies (must be toner-based, not inkjet).
Note: Print/copy all inkjet images reversed (flopped) if there is text or a definite “right side”. The black & white copies on paper can be either.
Small jar of Golden's Soft Gel Matte Gel Medium.
A cheap 1” paint brush
Scissors
Brayer
Clear packing tape
Bone folder
Instructor will provide:
I’ll bring various supplies needed for the transfers, such as spray bottles, fingernail polish remover, cotton balls, and xylene blender pens.
