I often look at old functional objects and wonder whose hands have held them, and what purpose they served….and so one day, an old teaspoon came into my possession, and I thought about who may have owned it. Was it used to stir a hot cup of aromatic tea by a woman dressed up in a lovely gown? Or, perhaps its purpose was to feed a young child their first bites of food, or to help nourish back to health, an ill loved one. I felt a wonderful way to honor this utensil would be to give it new life and at the same time, preserve a little piece of history. In this class, we will be making our own teaspoon curio pendants using a vintage teaspoon, antique tin type photo and little bits of ephemera, creating a tiny window into the past. You will get to select the photo and spoon of your choice, or you are welcome to bring your own. We will collage and decorate the inside and outside of the spoons turning them into interesting miniature curios. You will learn how to cut down the spoon, trim, preserve and mount the tiny tin type photo, and finish your pendant so that you can enjoy it for many years to come. Also covered, will be how to use basic jewelry making tools and equipment, and additional ideas for adding beads and other fun accessories to further enhance your necklace, in this class suitable for all skill levels. We will be attaching it to a simple chain, so you will leave with a one of a kind necklace that is sure to be an interesting conversation piece!
