There are so many wonderful jewelry project classes available at the various retreats around the world. Cold connections, soldering, rivets, bezels, necklaces, cuffs, earrings, etc. The list goes on and on! The catch is that in order to really be able to master any of these wonderful projects, some basic skills must become second nature. Do you ever feel like you have two left hands? Or that you always need a third one? If you’ve ever had more trouble than you think you ought to finishing necklaces or knowing how to wire things together securely chances are it’s a simple matter of getting back to the basics of mechanics.
In this workshop I will cover some of the most fundamental skills needed in order to feel like a natural when applying these skills to jewelry work. Wire wrapping, tool use, drilling, simple torch soldering and techniques, etc. Even if you are a seasoned jeweler who is perfectly comfortable holding (and using) a few tools at once, this workshop offers you even more tricks to add to your bag. We will explore various functional and creative ear-wire and closure forms – from hooks to loops to hinges to clasps. No stone will be left unturned when it comes to covering techniques on how to incorporate vintage and found objects, how and when to use beading wire, when to solder and when to wire, how to construct your own chains and how to use found chain. The list is endless and will enable you to easily create your own earthy, yet refined, one of a kind wearable works of art.
