P366 - Carving from the Right Side of the Brain

[back to quicklinks]
$ 80

In this class, I'll take you beyond simply learning the fundamentals of stamp carving and teach you a simple way to draw and create unique designs for rubber stamps. Using a technique to tap into the right-side of the brain, we'll create various free flowing drawings, ranging from the simple to the complex that have been tucked away inside of your quiet, creative self, just waiting to come out. Working with this process that you are unaccustomed to, you'll be pleasantly surprised by your new original style. After the easy drawing exercises, we will carve the designs into unique rubber stamps using simple tools and your new carving skills.  This low-tech process is fun, easy, and addictive with no carving, drawing or design experience necessary. You will be surprised how easy it is. There will be time in class to design and carve several stamps, and you’ll go home with the tools to get the juices flowing for more carving later. To make the stamps, we will be using simple carving tools, erasers and eraser-type carving blocks. For more information, visit my web site at www.TraciBunkers.com. Questions? E-mail me at traci@tracibunkers.com.

I'll supply the drawing paper, tracing paper & baby wipes.

Supplies Needed for Class:

  • steel ruler (small is fine)
  • small cutting mat
  • pencil
  • several markers in different weights (fine, medium, etc.) and a brush marker
  • carving blocks: 2 or 3 large eraser-type carving blocks 4” x 5.5” (such as Staedtler Mastercarve Artist Carving Block or Speedball Speedy cut). 1 or 2 white vinyl erasers.
  • stamp pad
  • paper to stamp on

Optional items:

Small table light for a brighter work area for detailed work
