We will be creating a wire and clay sculpture. Michelangelo made David and in this class we will create Reggie or Mary or an Angel whatever your mind dreams up. We will learn many techniques such as; bending and shaping wire, wire tinning (just like soldering) learn techniques with paper clay. I will discuss some possibilities and options for mounting your sculpture. You will all come away with a wire sculpture person to name and find their own personality.
$15 Materials fee payable to the instructor includes:
a packet (nifty little bag), all the clay we need, pre cut 14 and 16 gauge wire to make your sculpture, tin foil, sand paper, wire mesh, templates and instruction pamphlet.
Supplies Needed for Class:
100 watt soldering iron (I use a Weller), solder, flux, sponge (to clean your iron), small dish for sponge, scotch bright pad, heavy duty wire cutters, flat nose and round nose pliers , ruler, clay tools if you have them. If not a bone folder and awl are fine. I use my fingers most of the time to smooth the clay out. Bench vise or third hand to help hold wire as you solder. Extension cord and power strip if you are not flying (please).
Optional items: If you would like to put wings on your sculpture some paper, translucent looks best allowing a bit of light to pass through. A possible base to mount your sculpture on, we can look at your options. Small box of wet wipes, apron and sack lunch if you want to stay in the room to play and ask questions, I will be eating in room. Extra extension cords if you are local and have them, it would be a big help. See you there.
