Words come in many fascinating shapes, colors, and sizes. Learn to create word collages which have the appearance of illuminated manuscripts. You will explore layered painting techniques which add texture and mystery. Plenty of instructor demonstration and hands-on experience. Bring magazines, newspapers, and photocopied text in interesting styles or fonts.
Supply List: --color magazine with a variety of text --photocopies of interesting printed and handwritten text --some letter stencils & rubber stamps, if you have them --small bottle of matte medium (liquid, not gel) --glue stick --1” flat nylon brush --3/4” flat bristle brush --Sharpie or Zig waterproof pens in brown and black --scissors --pad 140lb cold-press watercolor paper (9x 12 in) --a few other papers (coffee paper, rice paper, stationery) suitable for writing on --thick paper towels --water pot (large yogurt size) --household sponge --Please bring vinyl or latex gloves to protect your skin from paints.
Materials fee includes: Set of six 1oz Golden Fluid Acrylics in the following colours: Paynes Grey, Titan Buff, Transparent Yellow Oxide, Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Quinacridone Crimson, Jenkins Green; two 1oz. jars of acrylic mediums; half sheet (22 x 15 in.) watercolor paper for final project; single sheets of tracing paper, simulated parchment paper, writing paper, and several texture mediums, heavy-bodied acrylics, and wax oil crayons to try out.
