Signet: a seal, especially one used officially to give authority to a document. In China and India, this official stamp is called a chop. Using symbols that have meaning to you, I will guide you in designing and carving your own signet stamps to use as your personal signature or logo. They can include your name, initials, symbols or photos—anything that you want to incorporate to leave your official mark on your artwork or anywhere else. The design can be obvious and straight forward or mysterious and cryptic. You can use your finished stamp to give the final touch to your artwork, or use it like a passport stamp in new friends’ journals. This low-tech process is fun, easy, and addictive, and there will be time in class to design and carve several signets. To make the stamps, we will be using simple carving tools, erasers and eraser-type carving blocks. You will be surprised how easy it is, even to carve photographs. No carving or design experience necessary. For more information, visit my web site at www.bonkersfiber.com Supply List: --Linoleum Cutter & Handle:  Small & large V-gouge and U-gouge are the main cutters needed (I like the Speedball set that comes with the handle and cutters. The handle is a hollow plastic to store the cutters in.) --Exacto knife, sharp blade, cutting mat --pencil --carving blocks: 1 or 2 large eraser-type carving blocks 4” x 5.5” (such as Staedtler Mastercarve Artist Carving Block or Speedball Speedy cut). 1 or 2 white vinyl erasers, and/or flat pink erasers --printed fonts/type to use for words or your name; small photos; symbols or designs.
