This is a combination of process-oriented/project class. We will start the day by doing exercises to stimulate the right side of our brains and put our pesky critics to sleep. This will include quickly creating simple faces on recycled paper with our non-dominant and dominant hands interchangeably using a variety of media. We are not concerned about ‘drawing’ or fashioning faces in their true likeness, but allowing our hand to talk with the paper in an intuitive manner, the result being completely unplanned and unknown. This class isn’t about painting pretty faces or realistic faces; it’s all about loosening up, letting go, and allowing your muse to play. Of the many faces you will paint and draw, some of them you will toss in the garbage, some you will save for later, and a few you will chose to paint to completion in class. I will demonstrate how I create backgrounds for my faces using inks, paints, papers, and glazes. By the end of the class, most people will have at least one completed piece and some will have more. If you’re enrolled in my “Endearing and Whimsical Folk Art Dolls” class the following day, and have a way to transfer your completed face to muslin before this class, you can use your fabric transfer for the doll project.
