I call my class guerilla dyeing. Guerilla meaning: “member of a small fighting force taking independent, irregular action”. I find many people are afraid to dye and I want to show them easy techniques to make them unafraid and show them dyeing can be fun and magical.
We will dye pieces of various silk fabrics using tie dye, arashi shibori (in Japanese, this loosely translates to mean “wind-driven rain”), vat dyed and dye-painted techniques. We will also shibori dye and dye-paint silk ribbons. These fabric swatches and ribbons can be used in many ways including cloth book pages, torn strips for book binding or tassels, book covers or spines, or in making bags and purses. You may find uses for these in other instructors classes during the week at Art and Soul! As a final bonus you will dye a silk scarf in one of the class techniques of your choice.
