980 - Fiber Fusion Journal House


$ 115 Plus $10 materials fee  

 

Come spend the day with us constructing a three dimensional journal about Home.  This workshop combines bookbinding, and sewing to create a unique fabric structure. Working with plain muslin and the smallest fiber and/or paper scraps, you will learn a fast and easy
fabric fusion technique that will turn your muslin into a work of art.  This is a chance to use all of the saved fiber or paper snippets and bits that are too small for most projects.  In addition, you will be able to incorporate a wide variety of other materials  such as pictures, photographs, natural elements, silk flowers and leaves, small flat metal items, or whatever strikes your fancy at the creative moment.  After making your fused fabric, you will construct a three dimensional house-shaped, embellished abode.  Finally, composing inside your house perhaps from gathered quotes, photos, and memories - pages about Home that are sentimental, heart-felt, and personal.     

Supply List: 
--one 18” x18” piece of muslin
--one ziploc bag filled with a combination of scraps--NO SCRAP IS TOO SMALL! (this could be ANY kind of fabric, thread, yarn, ribbon, lace, small bits of paper or tissue paper
--one 10” x 6” piece of felt--bring a color that coordinates with your bag of scraps (can be found at hobby/craft/fabric stores)
--one 18” x18” piece of Tulle (bring a color that coordinates with your bag of scraps)
--one 18" x 18"  shear fabric (bring a color that coordinates with your bag of scraps)
--2 yards of narrow (1/2”) ribbon (color that coordinates with your bag of scraps)
--one spool of coordinating thread
--fabric/paper scissor
--paper needle and linen thread (unwaxed) for bookbinding (can be ordered from www.VolcanoArts.biz)
--embellishments for your fabric house and journal pages (such as lace, trim, beads, buttons, wire, charms, word/letter tiles, ribbons, threads, silk flowers, collage bits, mementos, and images images on fabric, or non-photo paper that relate to your thoughts and feelings about Home)
--Goldens Matte Gel Heavy and brushes for applying Matte Gel (found at Michael’s Crafts or www.dickblick.com)
--sewing or embroidery needles

PLEASE NOTE:  This class requires a sewing machine. We will have a couple of machines in class to share, but it would be best if you can bring your own.

Materials fee includes:  Steam-A-Seam Lite, oversize watercolor paper for your journal pages, printed house pattern along with misc. snippets, bits, ephemera, yarns, and some other surprise goodies.
