990 - A Glowing Symbol

$ 65 Plus $10 materials fee

“Condense some daily experience into a glowing symbol and an audience is electrified.”  -                                                                 --Ralph Waldo Emerson
A cage typically represents a containment but in this class, we will use the cage form to showcase and illuminate sumptuous vintage fabrics and imagery.  Using wire and plaster gauze, we will create our own textural and earthy cage form.  After the addition of imagery, writing and stitching together, we will attach silk to create a luminous skin for the glowing light to shine through and finish it off by attaching it atop a sturdy wooden base.  Perfection is in the imperfection of this culmination of textures – soft and rigid, delicate and strong, rough and refined.  No plaster or sewing experience necessary.  Students can expect to take home a completed (or very nearly completed) light in this fast-paced class.
