Susan is best described as a well established artist whose interests cut across many creative areas. Her passion, however, is Fabric Art. “Fabric Art offers an almost unlimited opportunity for creative expression. Also, it’s a lot of fun!”. Susan has developed her talents over many years, including teaching at the Adult Education Program for Santa Barbara City College, as a credentialed instructor. She has been teaching arts for the better part of 25 years, including featured classes at Peacemaker’s, Costa Mesa, California. She has been featured in Art Doll Quarterly and has appeared as a guest artist on the Carol Duvall Christmas Special. For her, the draw to teaching is sharing her Fabric Art techniques with her students. “I enjoy teaching because I love to share ideas with my students. We all learn together and the network we form to share future ideas is probably one of the most satisfying parts of teaching”. Susan’s classes are considered fun, because they are always tailored to the skill level of each student class. As students continue through the classes, they learn more and more advanced techniques. They also begin to develop their own styles. “Art is fun, but it is also a very rewarding outlet when you just feel that need to express yourself.” Susan Lives in Santa Barbara, with her husband and a small zoo. Join Susan in one of her classes.

Leslie Jenison
I am a mixed-media artist who works primarily on the quilted surface. Surface design using dye and paint are integral components of my work. Since I enjoy working with unconventional materials, found and upcycled objects are frequently integrated into my constructions. My camera is always in-hand and the images frequently find their way into my work, literally or by way of inspiration. Recent work has explored the combination of paper and cloth. I’m fascinated with street art in the form of graffiti, gritty layers of torn posters and paint, and sprayed stencils. Other pursuits are encaustic and collage on paper and board, reading, gardening, traveling, and I am a pilot. I enjoy writing for several publications.

Marah Johnson
Marah Johnson grew up all over the United States and Canada never really calling one place home. Her parents were true hippies - living the hippie, bohemian lifestyle. Constantly on the move, She went to well over a dozen schools before she started 7th grade. To put food on the table, her mother used to make art dolls, quilts, and jewelry and sell everything at craft fairs. Most of the family friends were artisans as well, so whether by osmosis, or by her never ending curiosity, Marah learned to bead, sew, paint, carve wood, tool leather, caste molds, card and spin wool, weave, throw clay, paint silk, paint with beeswax, block printing, screen printing, and embroidery…phew...all before the age of 10. Needless to say, art was, and still is, Marah’s coping skill - her drug of choice.

Cindy Kovack
Cindy is a mixed media artist residing in Columbus, Ohio. She’s had a passion to create from childhood. Coming from a large, economically challenged household, she lacked funds for her creative projects. She’d hike to the local dump and salvage reclaimed parts and pieces for her art. She’s a self taught artist who learned to paint with house paint and model airplane brushes. She has since fused her love of paint, collage and recycling into a way of life. Shortly after her late husband’s death, she found she was able to channel her grief into her art. To this day she uses her creativity as a form of meditation. Cindy is a published artist who has taught painting, drawing and varied mixed media techniques throughout her career at seminars, educational facilities, museums, shops and retreats.

Mindy Lacefield
Mindy Lacefield is a mixed media artist who draws inspiration from the nostalgia of her childhood. Creating from the heart of a 7 year old, rainbow colors find themselves mingling among bursts of neon. Intuitive mark making with oil pastels tell the story of the child that still resides so vividly in the soul. Working quickly, letting go, and allowing spontaneous splashes of color just happen has been her approach to facing the blank canvas. Being in the moment and enjoying the process of painting with no specific plans of the outcome continues to thrive as Mindy's method of creating. Exploring the duality of nature, the dark against the sweet side - evolve and marry together - to awaken the dream-state that resides in layers of the soul.
Mindy is a full time artist living in central Arkansas with her hubby and two pooches. When she’s not in the studio, she loves to watch independent films and is inspired by the movies of Tim Burton, Alfred Hitchcock, and Stanley Kubrick.

Magdalena Muldoon
I was born in Mexico City in 1963. My mom opened her Crafts Business “Mercart” in Mexico City in 1970 so I grew up surrounded by fine crafts. In 1990, Mercart Mexico introduced the metals and tools for traditional metal embossing in Mexico and later in Latin America. I had the opportunity to learn the traditional “Repujado” (metal embossing) techniques from 5 of the best teachers in Mexico. In 2002 I moved to the US with my husband and 3 daughters and brought my mom’s metal embossing part of the business: “Mercart USA”. Since then, I have been teaching all over the US and participating either as exhibitor or teacher in shows like CHA, SDP, Art & Soul, Stampaway USA, Artiscape, Rubber Stamps and Scrapbook Shows, Artist’s retreats, etc. In May 2009 I was invited to teach certification workshops in 4 cities in Japan. I was also part of the jury in Japan’s 1st Metal Embossing Competition. I was asked to participate in a series of demos in Argentina in May 2010. I published the book “Metal Embossing Workshop” in 2006 (Sterling) and I was also part of Page Sage’s “Art Unscripted” DVD hosted by Carol Duval. I have participated in articles in multiple magazines in the US and Mexico. When I’m not teaching or running the business, I enjoy being with my family, going to the movies, reading or just having friends over. Contact: www.mercartusa.com

Susan Schenk
Collage is a wonderful way to wake up the sleeping artist within. Collages are unique individual expressions, just like the artists are. I am exploring a range of subjects without a political agenda, welcoming the technical challenge of making realistic renderings from recycled materials. I enjoy making something attractive from discards, appropriating images and putting them together in intriguing ways. Like any artist, I am especially thrilled when my work calls to a viewer to come closer and spend some time engaged in the piece. While my pictorial collages are best viewed from a distance, a close up inspection can reveal a very different piece of art.
"My goal as an artist is to let my work bring joy to the viewer."

As an artist, I have found copper and enamels to be the most thrilling media I have ever used, allowing me endless variety in color, form, & texture. To experience the results of combining glass powders on copper or steel and transforming them in a 1500 degree kiln is an incredibly satisfying adventure! No two pieces are ever exactly alike and each creation has a special gleaming personality of its own!

Catherine Zacchino - aka: Junker Jane
My name is Catherine Zacchino, a.k.a. Junker Jane. I am an artist living in Portland Oregon. My art consists of one of a kind soft sculpture art dolls, original paintings as well as other art mediums. I began making dolls 6 years ago. Today my work is featured in various Stampington Co. magazines including 2 covers. I have also been published in an art toy book, Crazy Toys, published by French publishers, Martiniere Group. I show and sell my work through various galleries across the U.S. as well as my own online shop. Many things inspire me to come up with my art doll characters, but my main influence comes from my childhood — images from make-believe stories and books that I read. Nothing compares to childhood experiences, and it is from this that I pull most of my ideas. As a child, I was always fascinated by anything otherworldly and supernatural, along with charming stories, such as Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. These influences have stood with me into my adult years, and I think this contradiction shows itself in my work, as my dolls seem to hold one foot in innocence and another in the shadows.
