Sewing Machine Experience Required. We will have some beginning sessions on learning how to use the machines throughout the retreat.

I love working in collage because I get to combine paper and fabric and stitch….three things I love working with. In this fabric collage quilt project you will learn how to use correspondence, poetry or book pages, art papers, stamps, stencils and also use a few unexpected materials in unique ways. I will share two of my favorite ways to transfer images and a few of my favorite embellishing techniques. I will share with you my top tips for great collages too.

What do you love? A special person? Trees or flowers? Your grandma’s favorite tea cup? Your love note collage can be about a favorite person, pet, place, thing or it can even be something totally imaginary.

You have flexibility on the size you will work. I suggest 12" square or 11" x 14". Some of my samples are in an accordion book format. That is more than we can complete in class but I am happy to share how I create them.

Supplies to bring:

• Matte medium and small chip brush, water container and paper towels
• Ephemera such as art paper, paper napkins, tissue paper, used dried tea bags, book pages, postage stamps, etc. If you don’t want to use originals you can photocopy them. Check to make sure the ink you use doesn’t run when wet. Thick scrapbook papers are not a good option.
• Fabrics, ribbons, lace or trims that relate to your theme
• Several fluid acrylic paint colors that relate to your theme, also black and white. Alternative coloring material options are acrylic inks, Inktense pencils, oil pastels, walnut ink etc. Bring what you have....no need to purchase something new unless you are looking for an excuse. :-)
• Favorite stamps and stencils related to your theme (Instructor will bring some)

$20 supply fee due to instructor covers: muslin, backing, stabilizer, fusible web, and use of instructors stencils, thermofax screens and ink.
