P198 - Textural Wet Felting

$ 150

Love fiber, color and texture? This class is for you!

We’ll spend the day exploring the textural possibilites of wet-felted wool. Using only sheep’s wool and hot soapy water, you’ll learn to sculpt spikes, fins and craters using wet felting techniques and plastic resists. After lunch we’ll explore Nuno Felting - the art of combining wool fiber and fine fabric into a fabulously textured textile. You’ll come away from the class with a collection of samplers that could be small wall hangings or incorporated into your other mixed media works. This class is open to beginners, but would also work for intermediate wet felters wanting to expand their vocabulary in this material.

Materials fee $20 payable to instructor at beginning of class includes:
Merino wool roving dyed in delicious colors
Tussah silk + other fun fibers for embellishment
Fabric for Nuno Felting - cotton gauze and poly chiffon
Resist materials, soap and other necessaries

Bring to Class:
If you are local, please bring two old bath towels. Forego this supply if you’re traveling.  A waterproof apron can be helpful, as you might get a little wet in this class. Not required.
I will supply plenty of gorgeous fibers and fabrics, but if you want to bring fabric to nuno felt with you are welcome to. Something open weave like cotton gauze, silk or polyester chiffon works best.
