P228 - Cut-Paper Collage with Hand-Painted Papers

$ 155

Learn a variety of acrylic painting techniques that transform plain white paper into gorgeous colorful collage material. Create patterns, textures, expressive marks, and painterly surfaces as the building blocks for simple, but dynamic collages. Engage your creative spirit, as we will explore abstract composition, make a huge mess, and have a whole lot of fun in the process.

Supplies to bring to class:

• Paper for substrate: I use Stonehenge Printmaking Paper, but any watercolor or printmaking paper or Bristol will work.
• Expired credit card or gift card for scraping paint
• Toothbrush for spattering
• Pitt pens (fine-tip felt pens)
• Paint markers (not sharpies); I use Posca Pens, available at Amazon
• Stamps (handmade or purchased – optional)
• Stencils (optional)
• Disposable Palette: pad of paper style, 9”x12”
• Acrylic paint: professional quality paints such as Golden Fluid Acrylics (not high-flow), supplemented by student-grade paints.
• Brushes: a variety of decent quality brushes, some flat, ½” – 1”, some round if you like.
• Acrlyic glazing medium/liquid: this helps keep your paint wet longer
• Acrylic matte medium: I highly recommend Utrecht brand, available at Blick
• A stash of printed papers – think pattern, text, color, NOT image. Book pages, maps, packaging, junk mail, and gift wrap are all good sources

$5 fee paid to instructor at beginning of class includes:
• cheap drawing paper for making our collage papers
