P265 - Silk Papers or is it Fabric?

$ 85

Nothing compares to the lustrous color and feel of silk. In this class, we will create silk paper that is also a fabric! We use luscious hand dyed silk hankies, roving and carrier rods. A wet laminating process allows us to layer fibers to create beautiful ethereal fabrics for embellishment as well as thicker fabric suitable for substrates and vessels. You will have the option of making a small bowl. You will make 4-6 sheets of delicious silk fabric/paper for your fabric and mixed media art. Use these silk papers in collage, as embellishment, journal covers and vessels.

Supply fee: $26 payable to instructor at beginning of class includes:
hand dyed silk fibers, textile medium, brushes and add-ins such as Angelina fibers, threads and sequins.

Supplies Needed to bring to Class:

2 yards of tulle netting
small glass bowl (cereal size or smaller) for molding a silk paper vessel (optional)
shallow disposable aluminum pan (cookie or lasagna size)
disposable plastic container - 16oz deli containers work well

Please note that due to the drying time needed, you will leave class with wet silk papers. They do not need to be hung up to dry and can dry flat in the disposable pan.
