P287 - Embroidered and Embellished Tags

$ 150

Oh, for the love of THREAD! I love doing hand-stitching for its peaceful, meditative effect, as well as for the fun, folkloric stitches and the glorious colors and textures of the thread. In this class I will get you going with some basic stitches such as the running stitch, French knots, and cross stitch. Then we’ll get fancy with some couching, bullion loops, and crested chain stitch, and more! We’ll be making little tags, perfectly sweet little gifts or fun decorative objects to hang about the house. These tags have a front and a back, and are approximately 3 x 5 inches big. After you learn and practice these stitches, you’ll be on your way to endless possibilities of embellished appliqué!
Students should bring to class:
• Colorful quilting weight cotton is good (not batik as it is more challenging to embroider)
• Small pieces of felted wool such as they sell in quilt shops, for hearts, circles, other shapes
• Pearl cottons such as Valdani, Eleganza, or DMC. I prefer sizes 8 and 12 for most of my fancy stitching.
• Embroidery floss such as DMC, 6 strand
• Regular sewing machine thread to stitch front to back of the tags, in a color that matches your fabric.

• Optional #24 beading thread
• Milliners #1 straw needle
• Chenille #24 needle
• Optional Milliners #10 needle for beading
Optional embellishments such as buttons and beads
