Explore the beautiful and rewarding world of botanicals as you discover a variety of techniques in preserving and showcasing flowers and plants. Your creative work will be treasured in an original art journal you create and will be filled with explorations of sketching, herbariums, stencil making, art journaling, self expression, imprinting onto fabric, hand stitching, painting, staining, stamping and collaging. You will be able to make this truly your own no matter what level you are at, creating a beautifully organic treasure to take home.

 

Materials Fee  paid at beginning of class includes:

• $1 for 12x12” mylar for stencil making
• $2 for printed images
 

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

• fresh and pressed flowers, leaves, plants (small enough to fit onto a 4.5 x 6” page)
• a vintage book with a spine intact (the covers should be large enough to cover 4 1/2 x 6 inch pages.
• a hammer
• scissors
• cotton muslin fabric approximately 12x12 inches
• sharp x-acto knife or sharp tool for cutting stencils and book
• heat tool
• black archival pens
• inspirational images of flowers and plants
• 2-3 spray inks-stick to darker colors
• a few watersoluable pastels
• pencil
• scrap paper for practicing sketching
• acrylic paint (a few colors plus white)
• 2-3 Tim Holtz Distress Inks
• small water sprayer
• stencil dauber (Ranger) or a triangle sponge
• acrylic ink : Sepia and Transparent Burnt Umber
• vintage postage and/or botanicals stamps (If you don’t have these, we will share with what shows up).
• paper trimmer
• 2-3 watercolor papers 9 x 12 inches each
• 2-4 pages of mixed media paper approximately 8 x 10 inches each
• waxed thread and needle for book binding
• awl for book binding (or a sharp pointy tool)
• tape: your choice of masking tape, neutral washi tape, pharmaceutical tape, book binding tape (for the book spine and for art journaling)
• needle and embroidery floss Suggested:(1-2 pinks, 1 yellow, 1-2 purples) Or choose your own.
• archival stamp pad in black or brown (or both)
• gel medium
• old brush for gel medium
• vintage text paper and/or vintage ledger paper
• poetry and/or quotes about plants and flowers
• glass jar for water to clean brushes
• paper towels
• apron

Optional items:

• latex gloves or similar (to protect hands from inks)
• pencil sharpener
• poetry about plants and flowers
• board for hammering on
