Sewing Machine experience necessary
Judy, known for her wonderful fiber collages, has created her own personal series using vintage handkerchiefs to create art quilts. This is a beautiful way to showcase a family heirloom or a hankie you’ve rescued from an antique store...and it makes a wonderful gift too! Whether delicate and embroidered, graphic and shaped, holiday themed or a kitschy souvenir style, hankies make an amazing base for an art quilt. (Some examples pictured here incorporate transferred photographs too — contact Artistic Artifacts if you have questions.) We’ll incorporate stitching with mixed media techniques and embellishments to finish with a one of a kind piece of fiber art (it’s recommended that you plan to work in small sizes for the class — nothing larger than 24" x 24").
Please bring the following with you to class:
• Cotton fabric, print or solid, embellishment fabric to coordinate/contrast (cotton or specialty: linen, silk, wool or blends), additional vintage linen (dyed or not) such as doilies, napkins, etc.
• Batting and backing fabric, to fit your chosen size
• Thread to coordinate with your color ideas
• Embellishments: buttons, beads, vintage or new trims, photos and ephemera, embroidered patches, jewelry, found trinkets, etc.
If you are local, please bring your sewing machine. We will have machines on site for you to use.
Many of the required supplies may be pre-ordered from Artistic Artifacts. They will be ready and waiting for you to pick up when you arrive at the retreat. For further info and to place your order, please visit: http://www.artisticartifacts.com.
