Yes, yes, yes. This IS the Paula Abdul Tiara! (Complete with pointy peeks and swirls of dangling charms). Indulge in Silliness. Girliness. Playfulness. And what is more silly, girly, and playful than a Tiara created by you...for you...and all about you! Together we will throw seriousness out the door and create our own one-of-a-kind Tiara/crown which we will model!!. Amidst the creating, we'll delve into soldering, wire-working, glass-shaping, and attachments. We'll find a way to show off our found objects and vintage ephemera. Imagine a Tiara created with snippets from your journal, antique letters, old family photographs, heirloom hankies, porcelain doll parts, even a discarded poptart box. Yes...even you
can be a Poptart Princess! Whether you wear your Tiara every day... or just set it atop a stack of vintage books in your art studio... its creative essence will inspire you!
SUPPLY LIST:
As for supplies, I will have soldering equipment that can happily be shared. However, if you have your own equipment, bring it. This includes:
- Soldering Iron
- Soldering Iron Stand
- Rheostat
- Solder
- Sal Amoniac Block
- Tips in different sizes
**I will have Flux, Flux Remover, and Sponges to share ... wire, too ** no need for you to travel with it unless you want to solder in your hotel room :-) **
For this class, you MUST bring:
- Pliers (one Flat-Nose or Chain-Nose, one Bent-Nose, one Round-Nose)
- Wire-Cutters (small)
- Metal Cookie-Sheet (at least 8x10) * a cheapie is fine, I prefer a non-stick coating)
- Scissors
- Cutting Pad or Work Surface (to protect your table top)
- Hand-Towel (at least 1...prefer 2)
- Pencil or Pen
Fun Things To Bring:
ARTWORK: Our Tiara will consist of 20-26 1"x1" squares as a base (less if we use more wire, a decision you will make later on). You will need to create artwork for one side of each of the squares...but we can do this during the workshop! They can contain photos, prints of your artwork, text, letters, and other flat pieces. Then we will be attaching the pointy triangle peeks! These will either be short, beveled glass peeks...or tall pointy peeks. The peeks can have artwork in them or not (again...it's up to you). You may want to bring some artwork that is up to 3-1/2" tall just in case...but, again...we will be making artwork in the workshop.
* Artwork: must have a non-glossy finish preferably be water-resistant if possible (if in doubt - get a laser color copy of your artwork at Kinkos). Artwork is to use in your little squares, the triangles, and any other special pieces or bubbles.
* Charms, crystals, beads, danglies...some of the extra goodies we will put on our Tiara will be charms we make up, or those we just hang. Here's a little known secret: after the EXTRA TV taping, Paula
sent her Tiara back along with Diamond Charms she designed and had me attach the Diamond Charms to her Tiara! No...I'm not suggesting you bring Diamonds, but...Rhinestones would work!
* 3-dimensional objects. My Poptart Princess Tiara has fun 3- dimensional objects poking out from the peaks. These include a candle holder, a marble on a spring, a feather, a paper flower, a baby fork,
etc. Bring some goodies from your junk drawer (or treasure chest). Perhaps "grandma" earrings, velvet leaves & flowers, buttons, matchbox cars, etc.
* Sterling Silver Wire (if you prefer that to tinned copper wire which has a silvery finish but is not sterling). Nickel wire is fine, too.
Don't pack so much that you are bringing the kitchen sink...but bring enough that you can play! I will have gel medium, glue, Diamond Glaze, paints, oil pastels, chalks, glitter, paper scraps and other things to
share.
