3014 - Screen Printing on the Fly- MacGyver Style

Combining my love of finding alternative materials for art-making and the fact that I'm one of MacGyver's love children, I've put together this class to teach you screen printing on the fly. Using everyday and sometimes overlooked materials, we will make our own tools for screen printing simple designs. You can bring some simple graphics and designs with you, and we can also create some in class. These techniques can be used on paper or fabric to enhance your art work or print your own t-shirts or bags. You will leave class not only with your own custom made screens for printing, but also with the knowledge of how to MacGyver your own whenever you find yourself in an alley, in desperate need to screen print. Supplies Needed for Class:

• gel medium
• 3-4 Frames: embroidery hoops, picture frames, anything flatish with an opening—Think what MacGyver would use and be creative! They can be thrift store or garage sale finds. Bring several slightly bigger than the sizes you want your designs to be . Embroidery hoops are cheap! You can get them in craft stores.
• Basic Tools: Scissors, Glue stick, Exacto knife, straight-edge/ruler
• Acrylic paints—a few colors (thicker acrylics work better)
• a cheap, fat, round stiff paint brush--like stencil brushes. Cheap kid’s brushes work fine.
• a fine, small and large round paint brush (for detail work and larger)
• Small roll of permanent double-sided tape
• small cutting mat
• pencil
• paper to print on—can be plain, printed or collaged
• simple designs that you would like to print

optional:  anything besides paper that you want to print on; anything flat that you would like use as a stencil

Materials fee includes: screen material, drawing paper and other MacGyver items for screen printing.
