Vellum, rice paper, tracing paper, silk organza, plastic, film, rubylith, and negatives are evocative materials that allow us to see through layers. Transparency, whether in books or 2 dimensional artworks, adds elements of mystery, elegance and complexity. We will experiment with drawing on diverse materials with pencil, ink and stitches, and layer these drawings into books. You can bring digital prints on vellum and/or film to include with text, image transfers, and patterns for added variety and meaning. Xerox transfers onto paper and cloth will be demonstrated, and binding options will be discussed. One or more books will be completed.
