Create a whimsical and fascinating flying bird sure to delight and amuse! Your bird will become animated with the slightest turn of a handle. Thanks to a happy discovery that greatly simplifies how to construct the underlying mechanism, this interactive toy can be made quite easily and is achievable
even by those who are not mechanically inclined. We will create the bird using several gauges of wire. At this point you may wish to leave your bird as a wire sculpture, or use the wire bird as an armature for collaged paper, fibers and/or clay. Alternative designs will be available to help you decide how you'd like your bird to look. Access to an online workshop resource site full of ideas for further exploration outside of class with detailed step-by-step instructions, photos, patterns, design tips and more is included.
The mechanism to make your bird fly is concealed inside a container that sits on a footed pedestal. You may wish to add aviary fencing to attach charms and other embellishments. Each bird maker (AKA student) will receive a handmade "FLY" charm to hang from the base– or even to wear as jewelry. Once you have mastered this aviation training, all manner of creatures can then be made to fly at will. So come spend a magical day of flight with us.
