842 - Beyond the Unexpected: Creating a 3-D Collage (2 days)

[back to quicklinks]
$ 260

Inspired by my book, "Collage Discovery Workshop: Beyond the Unexpected", we’ll delve into creative painterly techniques using household materials. After we’ve gotten our hands dirty and backgrounds worked out, we’ll put together a 3-D cigar-box collage, using the depth of the cigar box format to bring prominent elements to the foreground. I’ll show you how to use your own photos in your collages – photos of your family, friends and even pets. I’ll also show you how to become more comfortable with using your own drawing and line work in your collages, along with exercises to practice, and tips you can use right away. To add finishing touch to our artwork, I’ll show you how to transfer words and images to a plexi-glass cover. The two-day format will allow for ample creative time as well as new techniques and explorations.
All levels welcome!

Supply List:
--A few (around 10) black & white photocopied images of heads (you could use your own image, family members, pets or someone you don't know. It's up to you!);
--two cigar boxes-- the cheap balsa wood kind with paper covering. You can bring more if you like;
--acrylic paints-- just a couple of colors that you like. I like the GOLDEN fluid acrylics for these techniques;
--glue (I like to use GOLDEN’s regular gel matte for gluing);
--fine-tip black pen (Sharpie);
--paint brushes;
--scissors;
--collage items and papers you might like to use: colored papers, embellishments, game pieces, doll house window etc.;
--small jar of gesso;
--11"x14" sheet of plexi-glass (available at hardware stores);
--ruler;
--sandpaper;
--water jar.
