This class will really get your creative juices flowing when you learn to design your own custom fabric with Disperse Dyes. Disperse fabric dying is so much fun and there isn’t all that mess usually associated with dying. All you need is the heat of an iron to transfer dye to fabric! Plus you will explore techniques using text, images, and resists to really make you fabric customized. Use these new skills to collage, layer and appliqué your newly made fabric into an art wall hanging. Also covered in class will be hand and machine embellishing, free motion machine embroidery, and machine-wrapped cords. Put all this together and you’ll have a truly great project and insight to take disperse dying to the next level.
Supply List: --scissors ( for paper and cloth) --a small travel iron (*important*--make sure that your travel iron gets very hot and maintains a high heat--if you are in doubt, bring a regular iron.) --an ironing pad or soft towel --black and white toner copies of text and/or bold designs printed in mirror image --a few colors of sewing thread --½ yard cotton fabric for backing material --straight pins --sewing and embroidery needle --embroidery floss --a few yards each of yarn or other art fibers --small supply of embellishments such as: beads, buttons, found objects, bits of ribbon, lace, trims, etc.
Instructor will provide: fabric, batting, all dyes, toner copies, printed fabric imagery, yarns, patterns and instructions.
Note: This class requires a sewing machine. We will have a couple of machines in class to share, but it would be best if you can bring your own.
