Yes , you played with them when you were young--now its time to make some alphabet blocks just for you! We begin with a canvas block and then create a painterly surface with acrylics, gesso and metallic powders. You'll then choose a letter and a corresponding word because that is symbolic to you, the creator. Letters and words are very powerful--you will also use simple calligraphic lettering to write on the perimeter of the block. Fabric bits, collage elements, charms and amulets will create a miniature shrine of sorts. You might also choose to gild your letter using a simple foiling technique. The emphasis will be on spontaneous and intuitive play, while keeping a watchful eye out for the "too much stuff" syndrome-balance and contrast is what we're seeking on these fun blocks.
