No one can wrest more surprises from a few pieces of paper than Paul Johnson can. You’ll construct a extending pop-up book that ‘grows’ out of a box. As you lift the book, pages pop out from the sides like a pyrotechnic display! It’s great fun to make and, amazingly, requires only paper, scissors, craft knife and glue. Finally participants will make a paper origami box to house the book.
Supply List: --20 sheets copier paper (8 1/2 x 11) --30 sheets thicker paper than copier, also 8 1/2 x 11 (e.g., 80 lb text, 60 lb cover or lighter—not card stock) Colored paper would be effective. --2 sheets paper, 11x17inches, to make origami box (ideally thicker than copier paper) --Craft knife --Sharp scissors --Pencil --12 inch steel ruler (or longer if you have one) --Glue stick and white glue (Elmers is fine) --Self-healing cutting mat or card/board to cut on.
To enhance the class project, I would also suggest you bring the following: A range of colored pens, pencils, collage-type materials (magazines, photographs, wrapping paper), colored or textured sheets of paper for decoration, and rubber stamps if you have them.
