Each student will learn how to construct a shrine that will tell their own story, using photos and memorabilia special to them. Using simple materials and techniques such as assemblage and collage, students will make a structure rich in personal meaning. Make a shrine to someone special in your life, to a favorite place, a remembered trip, a beloved pet, or perhaps a fun event you’d like to commemorate. I will show you how to make the shrine. What you choose to celebrate is up to you!
Supply List: --cutting mat --utility knife with a sharp blade, sometimes called a box cutter (not an x-acto knife) --glue for paper (I prefer Sobo, a textile glue, found at large craft stores, Wal-Mart and fabric shops) --glue for embellishments (I use Aileen's Tacky, Weldbond, or gel medium) Weldbond can be found at hardware stores --a few acrylic paints, in your favorite colors --a selection of decorative papers or copies of magazine images you'd like to use --photocopies of photographs, sized to fit inside a 4"x5" format (I only use copies, not originals) --small embellishments, such as buttons, beads, keys, twigs, etc...think small! --6 straight pins, if you have them
