This class is for anyone interested in stamp carving, whether you have any experience in it or not. I’ll teach you how to jump right in and go for the gusto to make your own large, hand-carved rubber stamps. This class is more than just a carving class. It’s also a class to jump-start your creativity. Since often it’s hard to come up with ideas for rubber stamps, I’ll teach you exercises to generate your own original designs using simple doodles as the basis, along with teaching you how to carve.
This low-tech process is fun, easy, and addictive with no carving, drawing or design experience necessary. You will be surprised how easy it is. There will be time in class to design and carve several stamps, and you’ll go home with the tools to get the juices flowing for more carving later. To make the stamps, we will be using simple carving tools, erasers and eraser-type carving blocks. For more information, visit my web site at www.TraciBunkers.com
Supply List:
--Linoleum Cutter & Handle: Small & large V- gouge and U-gouge are the main cutters needed (I like the Speedball set that comes with the handle and cutters. The handle is a hollow plastic to store the cutters in.)
--Exacto knife and sharp blade
--steel ruler (small is fine)
--small cutting mat
--pencil
--several markers in different weights (fine, medium, etc.) and a brush marker
--2 or 3 large eraser-type carving blocks 4"x5.5" (such as Staedtler Mastercarve Artist Carving Block or Speedball Speedy cut). One or two white vinyl erasers.
--stamp pad
Optional: Small table light for a brighter work area for detailed work
Note: I have kits available with the Speedball linoleum cutters & handle, and small erasers (but not the large carving blocks). Please e-mail me in advance if you'd like to purchase one for the class.
