H111 - Roller Printing MacGyver Style

[back to quicklinks]
$ 80

One of my super powers is I can turn just about anything into an interesting stamp, printing block or tool (I'm one of  MacGyver's love children). The more experimentation and MacGyvering I do with creating printing tools, the more ideas I get. Pushing my printing blocks concepts one-step further, I have developed techniques for creating roller printing tools, or roller stamps.  In this class, I’ll teach you how to see everyday objects in a new way, and how to MacGyver them into roller printing tools to enhance your artwork. These tools are great for printing backgrounds on journal pages or for other mixed-media artwork. The various methods I'll teach you will range from modifying existing rollers to creating rollers, and altering them with inexpensive, ordinary and not so ordinary materials. You will leave class not only with your own roller printing tools, but also with the knowledge of how to MacGyver your own once you return home. And, in class you’ll be creating collage or background papers when you try out your roller printing tools. So strap on your tool belt, grab a brayer and denture cream, and let's go.

$8 Materials fee payable to the instructor includes:  rollers and other items used in class to create the printing rollers. I will supply wax paper, and the wonderful and weird materials for the printing rollers.

No experience necessary. All skill-levels welcome!  For more information, visit my web site at www.TraciBunkers.com. Questions? E-mail me at traci@tracibunkers.com.

Note: This class covers completely different techniques than my “Printing Blocks MacGyver Style” class. So even if you have already taken that one, this class will add to your printing tools arsenal.

Supplies Needed for Class:

  • Basic Tools: Scissors, Exacto knife, straight-edge/ruler
  • Acrylic paints—a few colors (cheap craft paints are fine, but thicker paints will be better)
  • a few permanent stamp pads (Staz-on works best!)
  • “Inky Roller” Brayer by Ranger (We will be permanently altering the roller)
  • Another brayer for rolling paint (doesn’t need to be removable, and we won’t be altering it).
  • small cutting mat
  • pencil & marker
  • a mix of different kinds of papers to try roller stamps on. Can be plain, or printed.

Optional
Anything textured or smooth that you want to try out or alter as a printing roller.
