H180 - Flag Books

[back to quicklinks]
$ 140

Flag Books are a brilliant and deceptively easy book form. These books open with a whoosh that delights and surprises as its contents move beautifully and perfectly into place. The flag book is a unique book structure that challenges the definition of "book".

The first part of this class will be creating Traditional paste papers.

Using various tools and found mark-making items, scraping the colored paste off and adding more using your internal compass as your guide. You might want to bring an apron with you: good messy fun here. I'll be encouraging you to push it further and keep notes., simultaneously creating a sample book and the vibrant papers which will become the guts of your flag book.

The afternoon is devoted to creating the flag book. Now is the fun time when each little flag can be further decorated and turned into a piece of artwork. I love to further push the tactile element of my flag books with peek-a-boo holes and funky edges.

What's that you say? You need more drama? Rubber stamp, copies of photos, collage bits, ink drawing, colored pencil. The list can be endless, there is no limit on bells and whistles today.
