In this workshop you will learn how to make an eclectic free standing figurative assemblage, starting with only two pieces of wood & a few of your favorite treasures!

You will learn the nuts & bolts of assemblage, composition, cold connecting, and how to unite found objects to create a cohesive piece of art. You will learn exciting new ways to distress wood & metal surfaces, I will teach you how to make beautiful clay faces, and how to make a mold of just about anything.
We will drill, sand, carve, paint, sculpt, problem solve, punch & distress...but most important, we will have a blast!
Breath new life into your found treasures and join us for a fun day of constructing these awesome, one of a kind assemblages!

Materials Fee $30 paid at beginning of class includes:

1 hand made free standing base, approximately14”x6”, 1 hand made clay face, distressing medium, patina, most tools & all hardware

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

Please read the supply list NOW and collect your supplies early. You may have to order some things online, so please allow plenty of time for this. I do not sell extra supplies in class. You may not be able to complete the project in class if you do not bring what is listed on the supply list. If you have trouble finding anything, or if you have any questions, please contact me at least two week prior to class at lklight@copper.net.

Please come to class with an open mind, a creative spirit & several ideas for your project. You will need to think about this ahead of time when collecting found objects.

A variety to choose from for the body, legs & arms. The base provided is approximately 14”x6”.
Stay away from glass, stone, ceramic or anything else that may be difficult to attach.
This is a cold connection class so we won’t be using much glue, we will be attaching with nuts, bolts, screws & wire instead. I will be bringing metal punches that will make a hole in metal up to the thickness of a penny. If we can make a hole in it, we can attach it! It is possible to drill holes in glass, stone or ceramic, but it requires special tools and more time than we have.
Vintage tin, typewriter parts, wheels, fabric, anything wood or thin metal will work. I have many examples on my website, please take a look for additional ideas!

small 2 oz bottle

4 oz of your favorite color(s)

(I will have several to share, if you don’t want to wait please bring your own)

METAL PUNCH OR CROP-A-DILE if you have one

A DRILL with several small bits (we will be doing a lot of drilling, I supply 2 drills, but it would be helpful if everyone had their own. Please bring one if you can)

I provide one clay face for your piece, but I bring molds so if you’d like to make more faces please bring this clay.
