This class will be held at the Textiles West Innovation Lab. Rides will be arranged when you arrive and check in with the A&S Office
In this two day class, participants will learn how to create pattern and texture on silk scarves and fabric samples using various surface design techniques such as shibori, stamping, thermofax, monoprinting and painting using natural dyes. Participants will learn how to mordant fabric, use natural dye baths, how to use thickened mordants to achieve various shades of color on one piece of cloth, how to use thickened dye extracts as well as using a dye/mordant solution to affix color onto the fabric surface. Students will walk away not only with scarves and fabric samples, but also with the knowledge and know-how to do it at home.
