Using wire as our substrate, we will create an ethereal study of Earth’s living elements, plant and animal, to create a wall hanging. I have lately been experimenting with transparency and translucency in my work. The juxtaposition of hard wire and soft papers creates an interesting way to let the light in.
We will be exploring the many ways to use various papers that lend themselves perfectly to this art: tea bags, rice paper, tissue and more. We will be embedding natural elements like cicada wings and pressed flowers between two papers. We will also be forming leaves, pods and critters with soft wire, some of which dangle and swing freely within the frames, utilizing positive and negative space.
