Within the Layers is a two-day class focused on surface design and mixed media layering. Our time will be spent learning and using techniques related to collaging with paper and fabric, inking, painting, stamping, mark making, hand stitching, and book binding. We begin by building our surfaces with layers of collage, paint, and ink. Next step will be to add our own unique touch with mark making and stitching. In the end, this all comes together as we bind our papers into small booklets that hold and tell our stories. It will be a day packed with creativity, inspiration, and community. You will leave with 1 or more booklets that express your personal artist voice within the layers.

My demo books will be sized at approximately 3.75 x 4.5 inches but yours can be any dimensions of your choosing. Consider your preferred size in advance as you collect your supplies for the workshop. Also please note that many of these supplies can be purchased at the shop on class day.
 

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

Gel plate and brayer
Paint brushes (for painting and gluing)
Water container and paint palette
Acrylic paint
Dye Ink Spray
Adhesive for collage (matte medium and/or glue stick)
Ink pads
Stamps
Scissors
Ruler for tearing
Mark makers (such as pencils, gel pens, markers, wax pastel crayons, etc.)
Paper. Bring an assortment of all types of paper that can be used for both pages and collage
details. Anything goes including your choice of a combination of watercolor paper, book
pages, ephemera, decorated paper, deli paper, tissue, handmade paper, cardstock, etc.
Fabric. Bring an assortment of small fabric scraps that can be used for both pages and
collage details.
Needles and thread. Consider both wax linen thread and traditional sewing thread.
